| Microsense followed a centralized approach to meet the requirement. An SQL database is maintained on a centralized server. The Wi-Fi systems at each hotel are directed to this server. When a guest at the hotel logs on to the Internet, he is automatically directed to the Microsense secure web server, and a portal page is displayed on his screen, wherein he is asked to specify his Room No. and last name, and select a usage plan. Once entered, these details are forwarded to our centralized database server. The server checks the source IP address of the packet and thereby determines the hotel from which the guest logs in. The authentication details are then forwarded to the local PMS system of that hotel and the PMS validates the Room No. and Last Name against the information in the Hotel database. If the details match, the guest is authenticated and allowed to browse. Upon logout, a similar process is followed to terminate his session, and the PMS thereby calculates the billing and adds it to the room bill.
This is a very user-friendly system with seamless intergration with the Hotel PMS, allowing the guest to use his Room No to login and use the Wi-Fi service without having to create a separate username and password. It supports a whole range of MIS reports, ranging from hotel-wise, time-based revenue reports to consolidated usage statistics of all hotels of a particular chain. This system is currently used at all of Microsense's client hotels that use the Fidelio PMS and require integrated authentication and billing facilities. |
